Summer 2016 Hair Saving Tips and Tricks

Summer is in full swing and it’s officially hot hot hot! Your hair gets the
most wear and tear this time of year. Between the heat, humidity, chlorine,
and tight ponytail holders, you’re bound to fall victim to frizzy, dry, and
damaged locks. It’s important to treat and protect your hair from the
harmful, harsh elements of the season. And what’s the best way to do it?
With product! Read on for my list of hair saving tricks and my favourite
Hair product Must-Haves for creating silky, shiny, soft beautiful hair all
summer long.

AT THE BEACH
If you are planning on spending the majority of your time at the beach and in the
sun, make sure to pick up a shampoo and conditioner that contain UV filters or
has Vitamin “e” in it. This provides protection from the sun allowing your hair to
hold its luster longer. I like the “Kerastase Reflect Chroma Bain Shampoo”, this is
an elite hair product and smells fantastic. There are also a lot of leave in
conditioners that have UV filters in them as well for adding protection from UV
damage, I love Schwarzkopf “Soft Glam” prime prep spray. I like to use this on
kids as well as their detangler.

WASH LESS OFTEN
Frequent washing strips your scalp of its natural oils, which in turn stimulates
additional oil production and makes you feel the need to wash it even more. Try
just rinsing in the shower after a day at the beach or pool, and see if that gets rid
of some extra oil. Use a homemade or natural dry shampoo, such as cornstarch,
in place of regular shampoo to go a bit longer without washing. Another quick fix
is to dab a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel along your scalp to dissolve excess
oil.

STEP AWAY FROM THE HOT TOOLS
Take a break from the heat styling tools…and your hair will not get hurt! Let your
hair air dry naturally all summer long. Why spend all that time with heat-styling
tools only to be subject to sweat and humidity and BOOM! Your style is ruined
and now your hair looks a mess. Embrace your natural hair. Just spritz your
damp hair liberally with a salt-spray (such as the oasis “session
label”). You can also use a soft touchable control product for a perfectly
un-done, sexy bed-head look. Save your time and enjoy the summer.

VERY DRY HAIR
Is your hair limp and sad because it is suffering from the sun’s effects? One of
my favourite’s is the BC Hair therapy “Repair Rescue” deep nourishing hair
mask. Apply once a week (especially in the summer with the salt and sun gazing
on the hair) to maintain a moisture balance to your strands.

SWIMMING/CHLORINE BUILD UP
You’re taking the plunge, again, and your hair isn’t happy. It feels dry and brittle,
gummy, crunchy, and clumpy. It tangles easily, and if you’re blonde, it has a bit of
a green cast. If you’re a brunette, your dark locks are even darker.
Naturally eliminate elements (chlorine, bromine, copper, calcium, lime or salts)
that can make swimmers’ hair look and feel damaged. You would have to make
an appointment with you stylist to remove all the elements first and then you can
take home preventative treatments to keep your hair in tip top condition. My
clients use the “MALIBU” miracle repair or swimmers treatments, these are also
100% VEGAN and safe to use on kids. So, lift out the nasty, smelly elements and
revive your hair, so you can continue to enjoy summer!
